John scofield

John Scofield , born December 26, 1951 in Dayton, Ohio, is an American jazz guitarist and composer.

He spent his childhood in Connecticut, where he started playing guitar at the age of 11. With the help of a guitar teacher, he quickly introduced himself to Pat Martino, Jim Hall and Wes Montgomery. But what will become his style, jazz-rock, is still in its infancy, when John reaches his majority. Fascinated by the guitar, gifted moreover, it is found (logically), a few years later, on the benches of the Berklee College of Music (1970-1973).

Scofield is now under the wing of renowned jazz musicians such as Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker. With these last two, he also recorded a live Carnegie Hall. But, as he likes to point out, Scofield really began his career with Billy Cobham and George Duke's band. This is the true beginning of jazz-rock: where rock fans come to see jazzmen in concert. Unheard of thing at the time.

After two years of good and loyal service, the group separates. Scofield stays in New York. He discovers then an interest for the acoustic guitar. In 1977, he recorded with Charles Mingus, before joining the "Gary Burton quartet" then the "Dave Liebman's quintet".
