Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez , aka Juanes , is a Colombian singer-songwriter and guitarist, born August 9, 1972 in Medellín, Colombia. His pseudonym comes from his first name and the first two letters of his middle name. In his music, Juanes combines Colombian rhythms like cumbia and vallenato with rock and pop. Between 1987 and 1999, Juanes was a member of the heavy metal band Ekhymosis. When the group dissolved, Juanes moved to Los Angeles to pursue a solo career. In 2000, his first solo album, Fíjate bien, had a moderate commercial success, even though he won three Latin Grammy Awards.

Since Juanes began using music from rural Colombia (a mix of indigenous, Bolivian and Hispanic rhythms), he has become a popular star in Colombia and the rest of America. Juanes is also known for his humanitarian work, especially with help for the Colombian victims of anti-personnel mines.

Juanes was born August 9, 1972 in Medellin, Antioquia, Colombia chief town of the department of Antioquia in Colombia.
