The Sonics

The Sonics is an American rock garage band from Tacoma, Washington. Formed in 1960, the group is cited as an inspiration to other groups such as Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, and the Fall. The Sonics have covered several songs like Louie, Louie and Skinny Minnie, and are known for original songs such as Strychnine, Psycho and The Witch. They separated in 1968, and returned forty years later, in 2008. The name of the group is chosen in reference to the neighbouring Boeing factories and their aeronautical production. This group was active from 1963 to 1968, with Gerry Roslie singing. They are initially located in the Seattle rock tradition, that of groups with saxophone, very rock'n' roll and energetic, quite far from the English style. The Wailers (unrelated to Bob Marley, generally referred to as The Fabulous Wailers to avoid confusion) were the most famous representatives. They were one of the first groups to take over Louie Louie Louie. They remain the main inspiration for the Sonics. The Kingsmen, the Frantics, also came from this wave.
