Kurt vile

Kurt Vile is an American indie rock songwriter and singer from Philadelphia, born in 1980.

Founding member of The War on Drugs, he left the band to focus on his solo career and was signed by Matador Records in 2009. His album Smoke Ring for My Halo, released in 2011, ranks in the Billboard 200.

Kurt Vile is the third of ten siblings>. His father is a train driver employed by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority. He grew up in Lansdowne, a suburb of Philadelphia. Vile has been playing trumpet since grade school and joins the Penn Wood High School Band >>>. He is encouraged to practice music by his father, a fan of bluegrass, who offers him a banjo >>>. Vile begins composing and makes his first home recordings. The teenager performs in cafes under the name of Kurtisy at free party nights, open to amateur musicians.

Kurt Vile goes on guitar and plays in rock formations. During the 1990s, he founded Pelvic Thrust, a group inspired by grunge music. After graduating from high school, he was employed by a Boston airfreight firm where his future wife pursued higher education. With his first salaries, he buys new instruments and an 8-track digital recorder. Back in his hometown, he enrolled in a community college, but dropped out after a semester. The musician is employed by the Philadelphia Brewing Co, a company for which he drives handling equipment.
