The Antlers

The Antlers is an independent rock band currently based in Brooklyn, New York, and led by Peter Silberman. Its name comes from a song by the band The Microphones. Initially, The Antlers was a solo project created by singer and guitarist Peter Silberman immediately after his move to Brooklyn. Silberman wrote his first two albums, Uprooted and In the Attic of the Universe, and released them under his own name. He then recruited Michael Lerner and Darby Cicci to form a group. Together they produced two EP's: Cold War and New York Hospital. Silberman's reserve of titles would later lead to a whole album, Hospice. The story of the album Hospice is subject to debate, but Silberman explained that the record tells the story of an overwhelming love relationship, by analogy with a hospice employee and a terminally ill patient. The album was self-produced in March 2009, and all available stocks were sold out. The band then signed with the New York label Frenchkiss Records, which released a remastered version of Hospice on August 18, 2009. The album was critically acclaimed. The group performed in 2010 at the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona (opening for The National), the Osheaga Festival in Montreal, and the Lollapalooza Music Festival in Chicago.
