Considered one of the first female popstars, it is often cited as a major influence of young artists of the 21st century.

Madonna has also embraced the acting profession: despite positive reviews for her first film, Search Desperately Susan (1985), and her Golden Globe Best Actress for Evita in 1996, most of her films received a mixed or even cold reception. Scalded by these negative reviews, she prefers to turn to directing from 2008.
