Mayan

MaYaN , sometimes stylized Mayan , is a Dutch symphonic metal band. He was trained in 2010 by Mark Jansen (Epica, formerly After Forever) and two former members of After Forever, Jack Driessen and Sander Gommans. Oriented towards a death metal rather technical, the group leaves in 2011 its first album, entitled Quarterpast.

In the spring of 2010, Mark Jansen, Jack Driessen and Sander Gommans, all three former members of After Forever, decided to create a new symphonic metal project. The following sessions define a musical line geared towards technical death metal, combined with the symphonic arrangements characterizing their former bands. Sander, however, does not feel he has the time to invest in this new group, and is replaced by Frank Schiphorst.

The group, soon to be named MaYaN because of Jansen's fascination with the Mayan civilization>, is completed by Isaac Delahaye (Epica), Jeroen Paul Thesseling (Pestilence) and Ariën van Weesenbeek (Epica).

MaYaN signed a contract with Nuclear Blast at the end of 2010, and entered the studio to make their debut album with Sascha Paeth as producer. The album, entitled Quarterpast , will be released on May 19, 2011. Participating, as guests, the singers Simone Simons (Epica), Floor Jansen (After Forever, ReVamp) and Laura Macri, an Italian opera singer. Following the recording of the album, Jeroen Thesseling left the group, thinking not to be able to invest there full time. He is replaced by Rob van der Loo (ex-Delain, Epica).
