Morbid angel

Morbid Angel is an American death metal band from Tampa, Florida. The British musical periodical Terrorizer ranks their first album, Altars of Madness in 1989, in the first place of his "Top 40 best death albums" . Decibel Magazine also ranks guitarist Trey Azagthoth in first place in "best death metal guitarists" >. The band's songs are complex in their musical arrangement, led by Azagthoth and drummer Pete Sandoval, also a member of the grindcore band Terrorizer. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Morbid Angel is the third most profitable death metal band in the United States (after Cannibal Corpse and Deicide until 2003), with sales surpassing 445,000 copies>. Their third album, Covenant , is the best-selling death metal album of the Soundscan period, with more than 150,000 copies sold>. The group has the distinction of naming each of his albums in alphabetical order.

Morbid Angel was formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1984 by guitarist Trey Azagthoth>. Their music is a mixture, rare in its kind, of complexity and brutality. It is one of the leading bands of the death metal genre with the groups Possessed, Obituary and Death>.

In 1986, the band began recording studio demos, eventually released several years later on the self-produced album "Abominations of Desolation" . However, the band was not happy with this recording, which was finally released in 1991, but is to be considered by Trey Azagthoth as a demo and not an album. The group's first official studio album is Altars of Madness, released in 1989, which was a huge hit on the metal scene. This album makes the band win in popularity and at the same time marks the complete emancipation of the death metal genre in relation to its origins and thrash metal influences. The following opus, Blessed are the Sick , was released in 1991. This album marks a shift in the group's themes. Indeed, the lyrics of Altars of Madness are centered on Satanism, occultism and anti-Christianity, while the lyrics of it also include references to Mesopotamian mythology, a theme that will become more and more present over the albums>. This album will confirm the growing success of the band, as well as the beginning of the popular recognition of the genre. The album Covenant , released in 1993, is the biggest commercial success of the band and one of the biggest hits for a death metal album all groups confused. It sells more than 127,000 copies in the United States alone> and more than 500,000 copies worldwide>, a record number for this style of music. The year 1996 marks the departure of David Vincent, singer and bassist of the group, a few months after the release of the fourth album, Domination ; he will be replaced by Steve Tucker until 2003>.

The band released its fifth album, "Formulas Fatal to the Flesh", February 24, 1998>, which will not convince fans of the still affected by Vincent's departure. The group is repopulating with "Gateways to Annihilation" , released in October 2000>. This album is still considered> as one of the best albums of the band>. In September 2003, the band released their latest album with Tucker, an album considered weak by the fans and ranked among the worst in their discography. >. In 2004, Vincent returns to Morbid Angel. The appearance of Morbid Angel in some European festivals in mid-2008 is announced as "a short pause regarding the writing and pre-production of their new eighth album". In May 2008, Thor Anders Myhren (Destructhor) of Zyklon and Myrkskog is announced as the band's new guitarist and will debut in their new album.
