The Cardigans

The Cardigans is a Swedish rock band from Jönköping.

Each album of the group manages to attract the attention of different audiences. With their first album, Emmerdale (1994), they manage to surround themselves with a hard core of fans in their own country, and get noticed abroad, especially in Japan. But we have to wait for their second album, Life (1995), for fans and critics from around the world to notice.

The group became known with the worldwide hit Lovefool, from the album First Band on the Moon (1996). The use of this song in the soundtrack of Baz Luhrmann's film Romeo + Juliet assures their popularity and, although some say it will be a short-lived hit, the band is once again enjoying success with the singles My Favorite Game and Erase / Rewind, both from the album Gran Turismo (1998).

Peter Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson, both heavy metal fans, formed the group in October 1992 in Jönköping, Sweden, with drummer Bengt Lagerberg, pianist Lars-Olof Johansson and singer Nina Persson. While they share the same apartment, The Cardigans record a demo that reaches the ears of producer Tore Johansson. He then decides to invite them for a recording session in a Malmö studio.
