The Cult

The Cult , originally called Southern Death Cult , is a British rock band from Bradford, England. Over the years, the group has changed regularly, with the exception of singer Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffy, composers of the band.

In its youngest years, the group appears as a progenitor of Gothic rock, a musical scene that developed strongly in England after punk rock and then post-punk; the group was also influenced by the culture of Native Americans, psychedelic rock or the Doors>.

After "relocating" to London, The Cult releases the album Love which makes it gain a large audience, reaching the 4> place of the charts in England with singles such as She Sells Sanctuary and Rain. After which, the group moves away from this sound to migrate to the music of the moment, hard rock. With the album Electric and the single Love Removal Machine, it pierces in North America. His 1989 album Sonic Temple is proving to be a huge commercial success.

The origin of the group dates back to 1981, in Bradford, Yorkshire, where singer and songwriter Ian Astbury formed a band, Southern Death Cult. Ian is accompanied by Buzz Burrows (guitar), Barry Jepson (bass) and Aki Nawaz Qureshi (drums). Their first concert takes place at Queen's Hall in their hometown, Bradford, October 29, 1981>. The band is at the forefront of a new style of emerging music, a genre between post-punk and gothic rock (also known as "positive-punk"). Very early, they get rave reviews in the press and among music lovers.
