Faces is a British rock band from London, England. Formed in the early 1970s, it consisted of former members of Small Faces and the Jeff Beck Group. The group ceases its activities in 2015.
After meeting the young Peter Frampton, the singer and guitarist Steve Marriott introduces this one to the other members of the Small Faces, in order to integrate it to the group. But in front of their refusal, he leaves at the beginning of the year 1969 to go train Humble Pie with Frampton. The three remaining members of the group, Ronnie Lane, Ian McLagan and Kenney Jones, are in a period of uncertainty until Jones presents to the others two rising stars of the London scene: Rod Stewart and Ron Wood, who have just snapped the door of the Jeff Beck Group >>>. The five musicians name their new group Faces, although their label, Warner Bros. Records, prefer to see them keep the name of Small Faces>.
The first album of the Faces, First Step, was released in March 1970. A single single, Flying, was released. The group begins to shoot in the United States, where it receives a mixed reception. Musicians confess to abusing alcoholic beverages to overcome the public's lack of enthusiasm. Finally, the good reputation that the press makes ends up before and the concerts begin to be sold out, helped by the growing popularity of Rod Stewart who leads a parallel career solo.
The second album of the group, Long Player, appears at the beginning of the year 1971; Had Me a Real Good Time released as a single. It precedes by a few months Rod Stewart's solo album Every Picture Tells a Story, an instant hit that ranks n> 1 on both sides of the Atlantic. The Faces benefit from the commercial spin-offs of their singer's solo career and produce the following year with Glyn Johns A Nod Is As Good As a Wink ... to a Blind Horse, from which their main hit is Stay With Me. Every concert is now a triumph, the audience of fans follows the Faces. On the other hand, the press which incensed the group before now burns in its columns each of their services. No matter, the success is growing and the fourth album of the Faces, Ooh La La, is released in 1973 with a lot of commercials. The album sells a lot and quickly ranks n> 1 in sales in the UK.
