Reel Big Fish is an American ska punk band from Huntington Beach, California. He is best known for his hit single Sell Out. The band really became popular between the mid and late 1990s during the third wave of ska with the album Turn the Radio Off, certified gold disc. Shortly after, the group falls into oblivion for the general public, but gains success in the underground circuit.
The band was formed in 1992 in Huntington Beach, California. Considering that most festive ska punk bands are trying to forget the lightness of their genre, Reel Big Fish, from Orange County, California, does not forget it. Led by Aaron Barrett, many people have criticized them. To those who blame them for their lack of originality, they respond by releasing a hit, Everything Sucks in It for the Money. The band released a second single, Sell Out. This single reached 57> Billboard place, remained 32 weeks in the rankings>. They wanted to show that they were not an uninteresting band, even though they admit they make music for entertainment.
After the success of Everything Sucks, Reel Big Fish is contacted to go on the Mojo Records label, which releases Turn the Radio Off. Subsequently, they begin to make themselves known to the ska-pop scene and participate in major festivals such as the Warped Tour; we also saw them in Baseballball with Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park). With a mixture of self-mockery and 1980s pop-inspired covers, they could boast of a blazing start on Mojo Records. The next album, an EP titledKeep Your Receipt, with new tracks, video clips and games. The band added some heavy riffs to their music. Even the baseball team, the Florida Marlins, adopted the Trendy song, Everybody's Doin 'the Fish, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah as the team's scream. With their second album released in 1998, Why Do They Rock So Hard ?, Reel Big Fish does not seem to have left his self-deprecating cloakroom, with titles like Everything Is Cool (surely an answer to their own Everything Sucks), The kids don 't like it, Down in Flames and what could be a tribute to the band's second singer, Scott's a Dork.
Tavis leaves the group in 2001>. In 2002, they published Cheer Up!, An album largely criticized by early fans who no longer find so many songs-gags, self-deprecation, tight pants and glitter.
