Rickie Lee Jones is an American singer, musician and composer born November 8, 1954 in Chicago. During her thirty-year career, she has recorded songs in a variety of styles including rock, R & B, blues, pop, soul, electro (Gostyhead album 1997) and jazz. She received the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 1980.
His parents, Richard and Bettye, are homeless and travel to find work; they describe them as "indomitable" ; she and her brother, who lost a leg in a moped accident at 16, are very close. Having become a regular runaway when she was separated from her parents, she used drugs - intermittently - at the age of 14. Entrusted to her mother, she is excluded from school at 16; at 21, she left her mother and saw various jobs as a waitress or singing with her guitar in a Venice club. Companion of Tom Waits from 1977 to 1979>, they meet during concerts given at the club Troubadour>, she knew with him a love story which she is still moved many years later on a television set with the presenter Thierry Ardisson>. According to a memory of time reported by the musician Mike Melvoin, at the time of his relationship with Tom, she modeled her character on that of her lover.
