Robert Schumann , born June 8, 1810 in Zwickau and died on July 29, 1856 in Endenich (now a district of Bonn) is a German composer. His music is part of the romantic movement that dominates at the beginning of the 19th century a changing Europe. A literary composer par excellence, Schumann and his music illustrate a component of the passionate romantic. He is the husband of Clara Schumann, pianist and also a composer.
Born June 8, 1810, in Zwickau, city of the Kingdom of Saxony, Robert Schumann is the fifth and last child of August Schumann (1773-1826), bookseller, publisher but also writer and Christiane Schnabel (1771-1836).
August Schumann made a name for himself by publishing, among other things, a series devoted to English, French, Italian and Spanish classics in the original language and in translation.
His son Robert goes to school in a private school and then to Zwickau High School, where he learns Latin, Greek and French. He received his first piano lessons from the cathedral organist Johann Gottfried Kuntsch. He participates in several concerts and begins to compose relatively early. The Schumann Museum in Zwickau retains its first work entitled - in French - "The One Hundred and Fiftieth Psalm" , composed in 1822. In 1826, his father died. In 1828, after having obtained his Abitur (certificate of maturity, the end of secondary studies), the young Robert, on the decision of his mother and his tutor, studied law at the University of Leipzig.
