Sugar ray

Sugar Ray is an American rock band from Newport Beach, Orange County, California.

Sugar Ray was formed in 1992 under the name of The Shrinky Dinx before opting for their definitive name following the lawsuit brought by the Milton Bradley Company (MB), a manufacturer of the Shrinky Dinks toys. Their choice stopped on Sugar Ray in reference to boxer Sugar Ray Leonard.

The debut album entitled Lemonade and Brownies is published in 1995. Their first productions are largely inspired by funk metal, pop, and rock alternative. Sugar Ray made a first hit in the summer of 1997 with the title Fly in collaboration with reggae artist Super Cat. Fly does not sound like the rest of the album, for this purpose it is regularly broadcast on the airwaves. Although the single Fly may not seem to fit the rest of this album, the RnB influences are found in particular on their first album. However in late 1997, critics claim that Sugar Ray is the author of a one-day title. That same year, the band is invited to appear in the movie Father's Day alongside Billy Crystal and Robin Williams. Note that this film is the remake of the French film Les Compères. The success of Fly takes sales of the album Floored to the point that the album is certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In 1999, the group returns with 14:59. The title Every Morning has a fate similar to that of Fly during the summer of 1999 and rose to 3> place in the Billboard Hot 100>. Later in the year, it is the title Someday that reaches the 7> place of Billboard Hot 100>. 14:59 sells even better than its predecessor and is triple platinum certified.
