Sunny Day Real Estate is an American alternative rock and emo group from Seattle, Washington. Formed in 1992, they are one of the first emo groups to develop the genre. In 1994, the band released their first album Diary to Sub Pop Records. But shortly after the release of their second album, LP2, the band breaks up; Nate Mendel and William Goldsmith join the Foo Fighters and Jeremy Enigk plays solo. In 1997, they meet for two new studio albums and a live album, but separate again in 2001>.

The group returns in 2009>. In 2013, Mendel will announce the inactivity of the group>. In 2014, the band released a song from their sessions, Lipton Witch, on a 7 "vinyl split with Record Store Day's Record Store Day label Circa Survive.

Sunny Day Real Estate was formed in 1992 in Seattle, Washington, under the name Empty Set. At that time, the band consisted of Dan Hoerner (guitar / vocals), Nate Mendel (bass), and William Goldsmith (drums). Shortly after the release of their first demo, the group changes name (a group already having the same name) and becomes Chewbacca Kaboom.

After the release of their second demo, the band changes one more name and becomes One Day I Stopped Breathing>. At the same time, Mendel decides to separate from the group. Jeremy Enigk (who knows Goldsmith since college) then joins the group and becomes the singer. With the return of Mendel, some time later, the group takes the name of Sunny Day Real Estate.
