The Backstreet Boys (also known as BSB ) is an American pop band formed in 1993 in Orlando, Florida. The boy band is originally composed of Brian Littrell, Nick Carter, Kevin Richardson, Howie Dorough, and A. J. McLean. They have sold more than 130 million albums worldwide and have won a number of awards and Oscars in the music and record industry. This is the most selling boyband in history.
The Backstreet Boys also served as a launching pad for Nick's younger brother Aaron Carter's musical career.
Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson, cousins, started in local choirs in their hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. They begin to perform on local scenes. As for Howie Dorough, Alexander James (aka A. J. McLean) and Nick Carter, they already have solid experience in show business (musicals, pubs, small roles in film or television). All three of them live in Orlando, Florida, and end up sympathizing with each other by crossing into auditions and, in the case of Howie and Alexander James, in a box: the "Latin Carnival". They decide to form a trio. That's when a certain Lou Pearlman (cousin of Art Garfunkel) hears about them and offers them to sign on his new label Trans Continental Records. He helps them complete the group: through friends, he discovers Kevin who, tired of finding nothing in Kentucky, moved to Orlando where he works at Disney World disguised as Aladdin. Packed by the proposal, Kevin is impressed when he hears AJ, Howie and Nick sing a cappella. And as the group is looking for a fifth element, Kevin immediately contacts his cousin Brian who is in high school history class, he accepts and leaves for Orlando. In 1993, the group was born ... Now they have to choose a name: they choose "Backstreet" which takes its name from a famous flea market in Orlando where young people meet, and "Boys" like big American groups (Beach Boys, Boyz II Men ...).
