Thenewno2 , also known as thenewno2 , is an American-British alternative rock band from Los Angeles and London. It is composed of Dhani Harrison and Oliver Hecks. Harrison plays the guitar, the synthesizer, and is also the singer. Oliver Hecks is on drums and synthesizer. Amanda Butterworth sings on some tracks. The group's name, thenewno2, is a reference to an 1960s British program, The Prisoner. After releasing an EP of some titles, the band released an album in August 2008, You Are Here.
Thenewno2 was formed in London, England, in 2006, but Harrison and Hicks had already been working together since 2001. Harrison and Hicks chose the name Thenewno2 (pronounced the new number two), wishing to be a " faceless entity ".
Their Yomp song is published as downloadable content in the Rock Band video game on July 29, 2008> and the song Crazy Tuesday becomes one of 20 free download songs for Rock Band 2>.
Thenewno2 releases its first studio album, You Are Here, in February 2009. Late Night with Conan O'Brien will choose thenewno2 as guest, marking their first television appearance. Later in the spring, thenewno2 plays Coachella, which Spin Magazine describes as "best first performance of the festival". " After their American tour, the band takes a break and Harrisson is dedicated to his side project, Fistful of Mercy with Ben Harper and Joseph Arthur. Their first album is published in October 2010 and is named "one of the best parallel projects of 2010" by NPR>.
