Timothy James McIlrath , aka Tim McIlrath (born November 3, 1979 in Indiana) is an American punk rocker. He is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, composer and one of the founding members of Rise Against. He is an animal rights advocate and actively supports PETA with his group.
Tim was born on November 3, 1979 in Indianapolis, Indiana. At a young age, he read dystopia books like 1984 by George Orwell and Aldous Huxley's The Brave New World, which would influence his work later on.
In school, younger, he was the target of teasing because of his eyes minnow (a brown eye and another blue), a syndrome known as heterochromia.
As a teenager, Tim's friends had snowboarding so Tim decided to save his money to buy one. But as his interest in music grew, he finally decided to buy a Gibson SG guitar.
Mcllrath attended the University of Illinois where he specialized in English and Sociology. In the early years, he met Joe Principe at a Sick of It All concert. Joe asked him to sing on a song that he and Mr. Precision had composed. Rise Against was born and Tim left the university.
