Tygers of pan tang

Tygers of Pan Tang is a British traditional heavy metal band from Whitley Bay, England. Related to the New Wave of British heavy metal, the band split in 1987, and reformed in 1999. The name is inspired by the sacred tiger of Pan Tang Island, from the works of Elric de Melniboné Michael Moorcock .

Originally from the north-east of England, the band consisted of Jesse Cox on vocals, Robb Weir on guitars, Rocky (real name Richard Laws) on bass and Brian Dick on drums. After incessant concerts, a group of numerous fans are formed and are quickly signed by the independent label Neat Records before the major label MCA Records signs in turn. After the release of some singles, they recorded their first album in "> Wild Cat in 1980. John Sykes joined the group as second guitarist. Jess Cox is then replaced by singer Jon Deverill (formerly Persian Risk), more experienced, the group does not lose the change. This band records what will be their most powerful album, in "> Spellbound , in 1981.

After the release of his third album, the same year, John Sykes left the band to join Thin Lizzy and was replaced promptly by the ex-Penetration guitarist Fred Purser, who has only two days to learn the band's songs before touring.

The fourth album The Cage is considered the most accomplished and the group's future looks bright. Due to a disagreement with MCA, this is not the case. The label asks the band to do more rehearsals in the style of their single, but the band refuses, and MCA then decides. to stop promoting the group. He then tries to break his contract but the amount requested by MCA was too important and discourages all other labels to buy the rights of the group that decides to separate. For his part, John Sykes finds great success with Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake.
