The Agony scene

The Agony Scene is an American metalcore band from Tulsa, Oklahoma. They are very influenced by melodic death metal. The Agony Scene was formed in 2001 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, by Johnny Lloyd, Rod Burguiere, and Daniel Hickman. Originally with the idea of founding a Christian metal band influenced by Zao and Overcome, Lloyd and Hickman took guitar lessons with Burguiere. Hickman finally left the band to join Enlow, a local metalcore band. Burguiere then asked Mike Williams and Brent Masters to join them, which they accepted. The quartet, with Williams on bass and Masters on drums, met Chris Emmons, who took over as guitarist, and the line-up was consolidated. During their early years, The Agony Scene played alongside bands like Enlow and Plan B. At the end of 2001, Williams left the group to join the Thirty Called Arson grind group and was replaced by Garrett Grover. In January 2002, the band sent its first demo to the record label Solid State Records, which concluded a contract with them. Immediately after their performance at the Cornerstone Festival the same year, Burguiere retired from his role as singer and was replaced by former bassist Mike Williams. Although signed with Solid State Records for a period of time, a label dedicated to the Christian group, The Agony Scene confirms in an interview with .
