Cockney rejects

Cockney Rejects are a group of Oi! British, from the London Borough of East End formed in 1979. According to their website and other sources, the song Oi! Oi! Oi! from their album Greatest Hits Volume 2 would be at the origin of the name of the musical style.

It was the singer, Jimmy Pursey, Sham 69 group who helped the group to find their first recording contract. The group's first LPs came out under the humorous title of Greatest Hits Volume 1, 2 and 3. Their biggest hit song in the UK was The Greatest Cockney Rip-Off, a parody of Sham 69's song Hersham Boys. Cockney Rejects' other songs were less commercial, partly because they tended to focus on street fighting and hooliganism. This violence was sometimes reflected in their concerts and members of the band sometimes took part. Jeff and Mick Geggus, two brothers, have both been recognized amateur boxers who have traveled nationally.

The Cockney Rejects were also supporters of the West Ham United team. Their success I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles comes from a song of West Ham fans, which has been sung since 1920.

In the lyrics of their songs, the Cockney Rejects regularly expressed contempt for all politicians. So they rejected the accusations of the media to support and / or be part of the British Movement. In their first audio interview, they mocked the British Movement by comparing it to the German Movement and claimed that many of their idols were black boxers. In their group biography, Cockney Reject (2005, Jeff Turner & Garry Bushell), there is also a massive fight against members of the British Movement at one of their first concerts.
