Cynic

Cynic is an American progressive metal band from Miami, Florida. The band, which will then relocate to Los Angeles, California, incorporates elements of experimental rock, alternative rock, technical death metal and jazz fusion >>>>>.

The first album, Focus, released in 1993, lays the foundation for progressive death metal. Formed by childhood friends who made themselves known by participating in the album Human de Death, Cynic is at the origin of a new advance in death metal, style often reduced to a guttural song. Their first album (reissued since with remixed titles as well as a title from the demo of Portal, post-Cynic group) proposes a death metal at the same time technical, progressive and atmospheric supported by parts of synthesizer and a vocoded voice thus only a mix with typical jazz shots. The group has gained a great reputation in the field of technical metal.

The band reorganized in 2007 and made a series of concerts in Europe, especially in metal festivals (Hellfest Clisson, New Casino in Paris, Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, Dingwalls in London, Nachtleben in Germany, etc.) where he plays the entirety of Focus, a cover of the Mahavishnu Orchestra (Meeting the Spirits) and a new title, Evolutionnary Sleeper. In 2008, the band released their second album Traced in Air, fifteen years after their first work. We find all the main ingredients characterizing their particular style, while renewing their sonorities. In 2010, the group released the EP Re-Traced, offering a replay of four titles of Traced in Air and a new, offering a much more refined, quieter with a mix between acoustic sounds and some electronic effects. The clear song of Paul Masvidal is for many as for the final result.

Cynic was formed in 1987 by singer Jack Kelly, guitarist (and now singer) Paul Masvidal, bassist Mark Van Erp, and drummer Sean Reinert. In 1988, the group made its first recording, called '88 Demo . Shortly after, the singer Jack Kelly leaves the group, and Paul Masvidal supports the song while continuing to play the guitar. The group recruits a second guitarist, Jason Gobel. Another demo is recorded in 1989, entitled Reflections of a Dying World. Mark Van Erp leaves the group, and is replaced by Tony Choy. In 1990, the new band went to the studio to record their third demo simply called 90 Demo . In 1991, Cynic signed with Roadrunner Records and recorded his fourth (and last) demo, named "Demo 1991" , better known as Roadrunner Demo . Singer Brian Deneffe, before being recruited by Viogression, joins the group. It can be heard on two tracks that appear on the album Uroboric Forms - The Complete Demo Collection 1988-1991 released in 2017>.
