The Datsuns

The Datsuns is a hard rock band formed in 2000 in Cambridge, New Zealand.

In 1995, singer / bassist Dolf de Borst, guitarist Phil Somervell and drummer Matt Osment formed the band Trinket, while they are still students. Christian Livingstone joined them in 1997 as a second guitarist. In 1999, they won a contest organized by a local radio in the country.

In 2000, the band renamed itself "The Datsuns" and their first EP, Super Gyration !, was released in August of the same year.

In July 2002, after several passages during the famous John Peel sessions on BBC Radio 1, the group signed on the V2 label and released their first self-titled album. The latter makes a strong impression in New Zealand and Australia, as well as in the United Kingdom, and the group receives numerous awards, including in the renowned British magazine NME.

After a long tour through Europe and the United States, including the Ozzfest festival in 2003, the band releases in 2004 their second album Outta Sight, Outta Mind produced by John Paul Jones, former bassist of Led Zeppelin group . The album is part of the continuity of the first, with an energy just as present, but a success less resounding in critics.
