Anaal Nathrakh was formed in 1998 as an aggressive black metal band. Two demos follow in 1999, lang = "en"> Anaal Nathrakh and Total Fucking Necro . The name Anaal Nathrakh is borrowed from the magical formula Anál nathrach, orth 'bhais' bethad, do chel denmha pronounced by Merlin in the John Boorman film, Excalibur (1981). Anál nathrach means in ancient Irish "the breath of the serpent" . This formula can be heard at the beginning of the song Anaal Nathrakh .

Later, the group signed to the independent label Mordgrimm, which will release the duo's first album, "The Codex Necro , in 2001. In 2002, the two Anaal Nathrakh's first demos are compiled into a single album titled Total Fucking Necro , published on the British underground label Rage of Achilles. In 2003, Mordgrimm releases the band's first EP, When Fire Rains Down from the Sky, Mankind Will Reap As It Has Sown . In 2004, Anaal Nathrakh released her second studio album, Domine Non Es Dignus, to the French label Season of Mist. Domine No Es Dignus marks a change in the group's black metal roots. In 2006, the band's third album, Eschaton , is published. Anaal Nathrakh refused for a long time to play live. However, on December 15, 2005, Anaal Nathrakh made her first concert in London, accompanied by The Axis of Perdition, Ted Maul and Leech Woman. The next day, the group plays in Birmingham, accompanied by Narcosis and Ramasses.

Although their first concerts were successful, the group refuses to tour. They return on stage on April 8, 2007 for the No Mercy Festival 2007 in Antwerp and April 20, 2007 in Birmingham.
