Jack White , born John Anthony Gillis on July 9, 1975 in Detroit, United States, is an American musician, producer and actor, best known as a guitarist and singer. He is also a pianist and drummer. He is one of the pioneers of the revival of garage rock revival with the duo The White Stripes. Jack is the youngest of seven siblings and three sisters. Desiring to become a priest at first, the fact of not combining his passion, music, and his work finally decided him to abandon the priesthood to devote himself to music.
In the late 1990s, Jack White teamed up with Detroit's Dan John Miller in a joint country-garage project called The Two Star Tabernacle.
In 1998, Jack White made his first official record appearance on a Hentchmen single, Some Other Guy (Italy Records (in) ). A few months later, the group's fifth album (Hentch-Forth, Italy Records) is released, on which White is credited with bass, guitar and vocals.
The same year, while still little known within Detroit, he is recruited by the cult band The Go to officiate as a soloist. Shortly after the release of the band's debut album, Whatcha Doin '(1999), a stoogian rock' n 'roll rocket from Detroit, he will be fired by Bobby Harlow and John Krautner (both founding members of The GO). because of tensions between him and some members of the band and disagreements with their Sub Pop> label. By Jack White's own admission, The GO was the only band I've ever been kicked out of ("The GO is the only band I've been fired from").
