The Rembrandts is an American music group famous for the songs Just the Way It Is, Baby (en) and I'll Be There for You, theme of the credits of the TV series Friends. During the 1970s, Danny Wilde (en) is part of The Quick, a rock band from Los Angeles>. Mercury Records released their only album, Mondo Deco, in 1976>. Wilde meets Phil Solem, a native of Minnesota. They formed Great Buildings in 1977 and were signed two years later by Columbia Records. Their album Apart From the Crowd was released in 1981. After their separation in 1982, Danny Wilde continued his career as a solo artist. He makes three albums and his single Time Runs Wild is in the Top 10>. Wilde and Solem, who had kept in touch, met in Los Angeles in 1989 and founded a new group, The Rembrandts>>>>. Their first album is recorded in Danny Wilde's home studio. The song Just the Way It Is, Baby (en), which is taken from it, ranks in the Top 20 in the United States in 1990>. The group is also known in Europe, where sales of their album exceed 350,000 copies. Untitled, their next album, was released in 1992>. Television producer Kevin Bright, who likes Rembrandts, asks them to record the musical theme of the sitcom Friends. Wilde and Solem accept after watching the pilot episode. The title was composed by Michael Skloff, the musical director of the series, to lyrics by Allee Willis. The group retouched the lyrics and recorded a 40-second theme that became the generic of the series, broadcast by the American network NBC from September 1994 onwards.
