Re: Equipment suggestions
He! I think Digitech makes some good distortion pedals like Metal Master and DF-7. The last is analog pedal but it recreates sound of Metalzone, DS-1 and several others, all in one box.
The best resource of instrument and equipment reviews is http://www.harmony-central.com/
Maybe not the best but great one!

True. Many people don't realize how many various sounds you can make with the various knobs on your amp and the various knobs on your guitar (and pick-up switch).

Re: Equipment suggestions
I'm not really talking about amp simulators or effect floor units. Just a plain old Distortion petal. I was thinking of the DS-1 but it seems a little to cheap to be so good. I was also thinking about the Digitech Distortion factory where it has 7 "famous" distortion petals in one.

Re: Equipment suggestions
I never really liked Digitech, I think they are feedback machines, overpriced and not worth it. But let me say I have only use what could be considered their ''cheap pedals''. I've never tried their ''first class'' stuff, so maybe I'm wrong and it's just because their cheaper pedals are, well, cheap.

Re: Equipment suggestions
a lot of distortions are cheap. i use a digitech grunge and it's pretty good. it's certainly "different" though.........but worth a try. i also use a boss SD 1 overdrive for less gain, which is good for some things, and not others. but they're both pretty cheap pedals, good value for money i reckon. don't knock it just cause it's inexpensive!

Re: Equipment suggestions
well it still depends of your guitar/amp so even if we record some stuff, you'll not sound like the recordings
but what style do you wanna play?

Re: Equipment suggestions
He's right it all depends on your rig but check out the MXR is a classic and also the sound of metal these days (if you got the right rig anyway)

Re: Equipment suggestions
I only owned one distortion pedal and it was many many years ago. It was a Boss HM-2, heavey metal 2. I say for a good price go with the line 6 gear. Without spending a fortune, you can have a pretty good replication of a nice setup and there are plenty of patches out there of tones people have made for particular songs.

Re: Equipment suggestions
the way it sounds at he moment its between Boss, MXR, and Line 6. I can't really afford Line 6, so i think I might go with the Boss DS-1
rig
Berhinger V-Tone 2x60 watt combo
I know combos don't sound as good as stacks, but at 14 I have a limited price range...

Re: Equipment suggestions
Look at the Line 6 Pod Port that uses the computer in conjunction with the port to give you the same quality sounds as their more expensive units because your computer is doing part of the processing. I think the cost is like $99.

Re: Equipment suggestions
A good amp gain always did the trick for me! We all got to make the right choice....are you going for a great amp or a great pedal (effect). It all goes down to this simple question but got to say that the guitar plays a huge part in the sound coming out in the end.

Re: Equipment suggestions
mangore- i suspect stupid won't be able to afford a great amp with decent overdrive. and sometimes the amp's overdrive isn't quite the right sound. and there are some great sounding pedals for very little money these days

Re: Equipment suggestions
Can you believe that this
http://files.gprotab.net/fuel_test_by_frantick.mp3
is recorded by Boss DS-1 + 15watt amp ?
But it is. Well, mixing is complex thing. I would suggest (to anyone who is going to buy some equimpment) to do more research around the internet and define your goals more clearly. In particular - do you want just 2-3 good sound types (clean+overdrive+disto) or you can compromise on quality to have huge array of different sounds and fxs (chorus, flanger, delay etc).
