8 Foot Sativa is a New Zealand metal band from Auckland. Formed in 1998, the band participates in numerous tours and plays alongside other bands such as Fear Factory, Soulfly, Korn, Slipknot, System of a Down, Children of Bodom, Disturbed, Motörhead, Pungent Stench, Shihad and Corrosion of Conformity >>>. Since their formation, 8 Foot Sativa makes many changes in their training. The name of the group refers to plants of "8 feet" tall plant Cannabis sativa>.

8 Foot Sativa is formed when members Brent Fox and Gary Smith meet at Massey High School in Auckland, New Zealand. Both shared the same passion for death metal. Peter "Speed" Young from Kelston Boys' High School joins the group as a drummer. "Fat" Dave joins him on the guitar. At the beginning, a cover band, which includes music by Pantera, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Sepultura, Metallica and Slayer.
