Airplanes is the second official single and the third overall of B.o.B's first studio album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray. The track includes Hayley Williams, the singer of alternative rock band Paramore> and is produced by Alex da Kid with DJ Frank E> who receives a credit as co-producer of the song. The music and the chorus is written by Kinetics & One Love>. The song was released on urban radio April 27, 2010>.
Airplanes reaches first place in the UK and also in New Zealand as well as the top three in Australia, Canada, Ireland and the United States. Airplanes, Part II, the sequel to the song, contains the rapper Eminem as well as Williams. Collaboration Wins Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Chants>.
Williams' appearance in the song is explained by herself and B.o.B in several interviews with MTV. Williams says that Paramore was on tour when she was given the song and she "beloved part" and she agreed to appear on the song>. B.o.B says he has "always been a fan of Hayley" and he did not expect a collaboration between them so soon. The duo was not together in the studio recording the song> and had never met in person according to Williams >>>. B.o.B and Williams met for the first time during the MTV Video Music Awards 2010 where they sing Airplanes Live for the first time together>.
A video clip had already been shot with Williams. B.o.B turns his scenes for the video in April but Williams could only shoot his parts after the end of Paramore's spring tour so that's why they're never in the same room in the video. The video, directed by Hiro Murai>, is available for the first time on iTunes on June 15, 2010. The video features several scenes where BoB rapped his verses in a party, on stage and in a room filled with lights and also there has lyrics of the song that are displayed while Hayley Williams sings the catch in a bright room and she walks through photographs.
