Box car racer

Box car racer Box Car Racer is an American punk rock band from San Diego, California. The group consisted of guitarist and singer Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker of Blink-182, alongside guitarist David Kennedy of Hazen Street. Anthony Celestino joins them later on bass. DeLonge will form the project to exteriorize his dark ideas that did not correspond to Blink-182. Jeff Russell of Signals Midwest is invited to participate but the project is declining. Box Car Racer is partly inspired and considered a tribute to Jawbox, Quicksand, Fugazi and Refused.

The discography of Box Car Racer consists of a single studio album, with the eponymous name, released on May 21, 2002, of which two singles were extracted, I Feel So and There Is.

The band was formed at the end of 2001 by guitarist Tom DeLonge and drummer Travis Barker during the first break-up of Blink 182, according to Tom DeLonge: "recreating the music that made me want to be in a group at first sight ". Tom DeLonge then asks David Kennedy, one of his childhood friends, to join the band as a second guitarist. The roots of Box Car Racer date back to the period when DeLonge was playing acoustic guitar on Blink-182's Take Off Your Pants and Jacket album. According to DeLonge, this project "was not meant to be a real group" , but rather "something to do at my hours" lost, and that was not the priority in my life, and just to do something experimental >>>. "

This project still nameless, was formerly called The Kill, and the first album And you, Brute?>. He will end up calling it Box Car Racer, the name of a band Barker played after high school, and that DeLonge liked. Although Barker thought the name was meaningless, DeLonge found some similarities between the Apocalypse and the Second World War. While learning about the war, DeLonge was "impressed" to learn that Fat Man, the nuclear bomb that bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945, was been dropped from the B-29 Bockscar Bomber (often mistakenly spelled Boxcar)>. To finish his project, he invites his fellow guitarist David Kennedy, whom he met in San Diego.
