Butthole Surfers is an American noise rock band from San Antonio, Texas. He was one of Kurt Cobain's references. The formation of this band dates back to 1977, when its future leader and singer Gibby Haynes (the son of a Dallas TV host known as Mr. Peppermint) meets guitarist Paul Leary at the University of San Antonio, Texas . They formed four years later, a group with multiple names, all more surreal than the others, Ashtray Baby Heads (or baby skulls ashtrays) or Nine Foot Worm Home Food Makes (the nine-foot-long worm is his own food ), until a radio presenter mistakenly announces them under the salty title of one of their Butthole Surfers songs (literally "The Asshole Surfers" ) . The name they take on the field, of course, will get them into trouble and censorship when they leave the underground to sign with majors in the 1990s. Most DJs announced them under the name of BH Surfers.
The Butthole Surfers released an EP in 1983 with the label Alternative Tentacles (by Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys)>. The EP, Butthole Surfers (also known as Brown Reason to Live and Pee Pee the Sailor), includes absurd titles like The Shah Lee Harvey's Grave and Bar-BQ Pope, sung by Haynes and Leary. . Cobain will later cite Butthole Surfers' Pee Pee the Sailor album as one of the fifty albums that have marked the sound of Nirvana. Cobain will finally meet his future wife, Courtney Love of Hole, at a Butthole Surfers / L7 concert in 1991.
