Carlos Paredes (Coimbra, February 16, 1925 - Lisbon July 23, 2004), is a composer and virtuoso of the Portuguese guitar, instrument that traditionally accompanies fado.

Born on February 16, 1925 in Coimbra, Carlos Paredes comes from a family of musicians. It belongs to the generation of Portuguese artists who has helped to spread Fado, the traditional Portuguese song, around the world. A public servant in a Lisbon hospital until the early 1990s, Carlos Paredes had reconciled a professional activity with his music business. "People like to hear me play the guitar. They like it and they adhere. That's all, "he said in the early 1990s to explain his success. The Portuguese artist, who recorded his first album in 1957 and composed several film scores throughout his career, inspired in 2005 the album Canto (vocals) by the singer Fado Mísia. he died on July 23, 2004, suffering from myopathy.
