Steven Demetre Georgiou , aka Cat Stevens , is a British singer, musician and songwriter born on 21 July 1948 in London. After a great success in the 1970s, he converted to Islam in December 1977 and took the name of Yusuf Islam . He abandons music to devote himself to various philanthropic causes. However, he returned to music in the 1990s and began, in 2010, an international tour.

Steven Demetre Georgiou was born on July 21, 1948 in Marylebone in London of a Greek Cypriot father and a Swedish mother. He studies at a Catholic school, and he will keep a strong mysticism. His father, Stavros Georgiou (1900-1978) and his mother Ingrid Wickman (1915-1989), run a restaurant and the whole family lives above the establishment. Steven has a senior brother and sister, David and Anita. Under the influence of his parents, he practices music very early, first the piano, then the guitar. At 16, he plays at night in bars, where he will be known, and at age 17 he enters a school of graphic arts.

At age 18, he goes to producer Mike Hurst who asks him to show him his compositions. Immediately conquered, Hurst wants to know his name>, he answers: " My name is Steven but they call me Cat » (this nickname would have been given to her by a girl because she thought he had cat eyes)>. It is now under the name of Cat Stevens that he will be known.
