Current 93 is a British experimental music group from London, England. It was formed in 1982 by David Tibet (born David Michael Bunting, renamed Tibet by Genesis P-Orridge shortly before the creation of the group).
The group is formed in 1982> by David Tibet>. Tibet is the only consistent member of the group, although Steven Stapleton (of Nurse With Wound) has participated in almost all Current 93 albums. Michael Cashmore is also a frequent contributor. Douglas P. of Death in June has played on more than a dozen of Current 93 albums, and Steve Ignorant of Crass (under the pseudonym Stephen Intelligent), Boyd Rice, runologist Freya Aswynn, Nick Cave, Björk, Rose McDowall, Tiny Tim, Tony Wakeford of Sol Invictus and Death in June, John Balance of Coil and Ian Read of Fire and Ice, as well as lately Andrew WK, have also lent their talent through the years.
Tibet is a follower of the writings of the American author Thomas Ligotti, and invited him to collaborate with Current 93. We find on the album Black Ships Ate The Sky of 2006, Bonnie Prince Billy, Antony and Baby Dee (of the group Antony and the Johnsons, guitarist Ben Chasny, Comets on Fire and Six Organs of Admittance groups, Cosey Fanni Tutti and Marc Almond of Soft Cell, well known for his Tainted Love hit (picked up by Coil).
Current 93's discography is very extensive, consisting of more than twenty albums, many singles, and has many participations with the groups mentioned above, as well as with Magic Lantern Cycle, Nature and Organization and the Hafler Trio.
