Dark tranquillity

Dark Tranquility is a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg>. It is one of the leading bands of Gothenburg's influential melodic death movement with In Flames and At the Gates.

Created under the name of Septic Broiler in 1989> and initially playing thrash metal, the band quickly takes its current name in the same year after its first demo, Enfeebled Earth (1989), and turns to nonlinear death metal. It follows a multiple demo in 1993, Skydancer . Soon after, lead singer Anders Fridén leaves the band to join In Flames. He is replaced by Mikael Stanne, formerly singer of In Flames. At the same time, Fredrik Johansson is recruited as a rhythm guitarist.

After the release of the Swedish Grammy Award-nominated album Projector (1999), new changes in the composition of the group are taking place. Guitarist Fredrik Johansson decides to leave the band due to lack of motivation. Martin Henriksson went from bass to guitar and bassist Michael Nicklasson joined the group, along with Martin Brändström on keyboards and electronic sounds. Dark Tranquility then signs on the Century Media Records label. From this time, the musical direction and formation of the band will not evolve anymore.

From 1995 to 2002, the band was produced by Fredrik Nordström, who became one of the leading producers of melodic death metal. After 2002, the band decides to self-produce, but chooses the co-production with Tue Madsen for their album Fiction released in April 2007.
