Dave matthews

Dave John Matthews is an American naturalized musician born on January 9, 1967 in Johannesburg (South Africa). He is the leader, singer and guitarist of the Dave Matthews Band. He also plays alone or with other musicians, especially in duets with Tim Reynolds. Occasional actor, he played in some movies and series.

David John Matthews born January 9, 1967 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is the third of four children of John and Valerie Matthews. At age two, the Matthews family moved to Yorktown Heights, NY, where their physicist father was hired by IBM.

In 1974, the Matthews family moved to Cambridge, England for a year, before returning to New York where John Matthews died of lung cancer in 1977. The biographer Nevin Martell claims that the death of his father inspired Dave Matthews words of "carpe diem">. The family returns to Johannesburg in South Africa in 1977.

In 1985, Dave Matthews graduated from St. Stithians College High School (en) . That same year, he was also called for military service: Dave left South Africa to avoid conscription.
