Dire Straits is a British rock band created in Deptford in the summer of 1977 by Mark Knopfler (guitar and vocals), his brother David Knopfler (guitar), John Illsley (bass) and Pick Withers (drums ). Considered one of the biggest rock bands of the 1980s, Dire Straits has sold more than 120 million albums since its inception.
Sultans of Swing, Romeo and Juliet, Telegraph Road, Brothers in Arms, Money for Nothing, Private Investigations, Walk of Life, Elvis Calling, So Far Away, Lady Writer, Twisting by the Pool are some of the great success of the group.
The group split in 1993, although its contract officially ended in 1995.
