Discharge is a British hardcore punk band from Stoke-on-Trent. Promoter of D-beat sound, band formed in 1977 by Terrance "Tez" Roberts and Roy "Rainy" Wainwright> . The band underwent many changes of musicians between the mid-1980s and early 2000s.

Their music uses a heavy, fast and aggressive sound composed of electric guitars modified with extreme distortion (a very saturated sound). The words are often shouted while the lyrics deal with anarchist or pacifist themes. Their second album, released in 1982, Hear Nothing, See Nothing, and Say Nothing, won 2nd place in the UK Indie Charts and is number 40 in the UK Album Chart. Later, Discharge evolves towards heavy metal, not without losing its credibility in the eyes of the other members of the British punk scene as well as its success. The group, separated in the mid-1990s after several unsuccessful attempts to open up to a wider audience, reformed in the early 2000s and more or less stuck in the underground scene, renewing with his community of fans .

Discharge is one of the few punk rock bands whose influence has been one of the most important in the evolution of this music and its many genres and sub-genres. A pioneer of hardcore punk, Discharge has also influenced crust punk, grindcore, anarcho-punk, and is behind a sub-genre of punk crust that bears his name, D-beat. The heavy metal of the 1980s is also very influenced by Discharge, especially the Californian thrash metal scene: Metallica and Anthrax have taken over various compilations of the band's songs. Other bands from other genres of heavy metal also claim its influence, such as black metal, industrial metal, or death metal.

Discharge is formed in 1977 in Stoke-on-Trent by Terence "Tez" Roberts and Roy "Rainy" Wainwright>. They then recruit Roberts' younger brother, Anthony "Bones" Roberts on guitar, Nigel Bamford on bass, and Anthony "Akko" < / span> Axon (AllMusic gives him the nickname Hacko>) on the drums>. The band's musical style was originally inspired by 1977 punk bands like Sex Pistols, The Damned and The Clash. With Tanya Rich as an artistic agent, the band recorded their first demo, backed by bands like The Ruts, The Clash and The Damned at Victoria Hall, Hanley, and began shooting.
