Distress is a French doom metal and death-doom band from Strasbourg, Alsace. The group is formed by Philippe Miralles and Laurent Haas in 1996, and separates in 2011. Distress should not be confused with another group, originally from Nord-Pas-de-Calais, formed in 1992>.
Distress is formed in 1996 in Strasbourg, Alsace>. He trained around Laurent Haas (drums) and Philippe Miralles (vocals and guitar). During an interview in 2005, Miralles explains that "We had in mind the idea of creating a metal music that is both heavy and aggressive, full of melodies and doom ambiences, with various influences. >. "
In 1998, Distress recorded its first demo, titled Quest of Elegy, which would then include virtually definitive versions of tracks from their first album Close to Heaven, released in February 2001 at Thundering Records. Also in 2001, the band's guitarist, Eric Lorentz, previously in the group Anorma, joins Distress>. The group's first concert takes place in June in Haguenau. Then at the end of the year, Anorma's drummer, Julien Diebold, joins the band.
From 2002, until his release in September 2004, Distress worked on The Mourning Sign, on which are affirmed directions, "more icy and melancholic than ever". " It's released on the Thundering Records label>. In 2003, Julien decides to leave Distress. He is then replaced by Thibaut Xhaard. The group resurfaced thanks to Others, their third album, in 2007>.
