Edge of Sanity was formed in 1989 by singer, drummer and multi-instrumentalist Dan Swanö and bassist / guitarist Andreas "Dread" Axelsson. After recruiting bassist Anders Lindberg, guitarist Sami Nerberg and drummer Benny Larsson, the band recorded several demos until 1990 when one of them entitled Kur-Nu-Gi-A draws the attention of the house of Black Mark records and allows him to win his first contract>.

In 1991, he recorded his first album Nothing but Death Remains with the sound engineer of Bathory, and began to get noticed by the specialized press >. However, it has difficulty to stand out from the rest of the Swedish death metal scene then in full explosion (Entombed, Grave, Dismember, Unleashed, ...).

The second album, Unorthodox , released the following year, in 1992, proves much more convincing and goes far beyond the boundaries of death metal by integrating acoustic guitar parts and many rhythm changes. The last title of the album When All is Said flirts with the ballad and we can even hear Dan Swanö sing in a clear voice on Enigma . After the release of the album, Dan Swanö decides to focus on his new activity of producer. He then works for different metal bands in his own studio, Unisound Studio, and begins to make a name for himself in the music industry.
