FireLake is a Ukrainian melodic and progressive death metal band from Kyiv. The group is formed in 1997.
Bathed in the wave of Swedish death metal during their youth, they are very influenced by bands such as At the Gates, In Flames, Dark Tranquility. FireLake is formed in 1997 in Kyiv>. After many internal disagreements, and difficulties to occur, the band finally defined itself in a melodic death metal movement. In 1999, the group participates in several Ukrainian events, such as В гостях у Воланда and The Great Commandment, playing songs like Disclaimer, Te Deum, Unerase, Reflection, Camera Obscura, and Egoism.
In 2000, Oleksiy Akulshyn left the band for personal reasons, and was replaced by Ruslan Drozd (guitar). This new band begins recording their first studio album, The Temptation Journey. In 2005, a compilation of ten songs, recorded between 2001 and 2005, is ready for publication. It is finally published in 2007. 2005 also marks the departure of Andriy Salnikov and Hellen, and the arrival of Dmytro Nazarenko (drums, ex-Sarcasm) and Olga Lyapina (vocals).
In the summer of 2005, FireLake participated in the International Metal Heads Mission festival, alongside Napalm Death, Cenotaph, Parricide and many other groups from abroad. On August 25 of the same year, they play with Darzamat. Then, the band greets Serhiy Dvuzhylny (bass, ex-Witch Hunter), and later Victoria Kotenko (singing, ex-IDOL). In 2006, the group composes several of the titles appearing in the soundtrack of the game S.T.A.L.K.E.R .: Shadow of Chernobyl (Dirge for the Planet, Fighting Unknown, Against the Ionized Odds). These titles may be heard during the game, broadcast by various radio stations. In February 2006, in Moscow, the group participates in the Gameland Award 2, broadcast by MTV Russia. Also in 2006, Ruslan left the band, and was replaced by Andriy Larionov (guitar, ex-Witch Hunter).
