The band was formed in 1993 after the meeting of Palumbo and Beck at the camp. Regarding the name, Beck explains: "We had a list of several names, and we were like, choose one of these names and see which one looks the coolest. At the time, we chose a name with two words,. The first name we'd picked and liked was Swiftkick. For me, it was a sick name. But for no reason, Glassjaw stayed. We do not know why ; it just seemed cool. The band performs its first concert in 1994 in Oceanside, NY.
