The two first albums of the group, Поганая молодёжь (Dirty young people) and Optimism (Optimism), are the basis of their present success. However, at the time of their writing, between 1982 and 1985, these songs had only a very small impact, and their first album was censored. Letov was sent for military service, then interned in a psychiatric hospital for antisovietism for 3 months.

Both albums were restored and re-recorded in 1989.
