Hecate Enthroned is a British symphonic black metal band from Wrexham, Wales. The band formed in 1993 as a band of blackened death metal originally known as Amethyst. In 1995, he changed his name and moved towards a black-metal style comparable to that of Cradle of Filth.
The group formed in 1993 in Wrexham, Wales oriented blackened death metal originally under the name of Amethyst before changing to that of Daemonum>; the first line-up consists of Jon Kennedy, Nigel Dennen, Ian Maiden, Mark Watson-Jones (also a member of Blacklisted), Steve, Gary and Marc. They released a demo audio tape in 1991, Dreams to Mourn .
In 1994, after being invited by Dani Filth to play bass in his band, Cradle of Filth, Jon left Daemonum and joined Cradle of Filth, temporarily replacing Robin Eaglestone. However, in 1995, Kennedy left Cradle of Filth and returned to Daemonum, which changed its name to Hecate Enthroned and developed a style more oriented melodic black metal. Ian, Mark, Steve and Gary leave the group soon after, and are replaced by bassist Dylan Hughes, keyboardist Michael Snell and drummer Craig. Marc and Nigel Dennen take on the role of guitarists. Ian also briefly replaces Jon on vocals when he leaves for Cradle of Filth. With this line-up and during the same year, they record their demo tape, An Ode for Haunted Wood .
Their demo cassette An Ode for a Haunted Wood gets the attention of British independent label Blackend Records, which signs Hecate and reissues the tape under the title < In 1995, Craig left the band and was replaced by drummer Robert " Bob " Kendrick (former member of Art of Mutilation and Necropsy), and during the same period, Hecate released his first studio album entitled The Slaughter of Innocence, a Requiem for the Mighty , produced by Andy Sneap, who saw the group move towards a brutal and symphonic musical style. The album is well received despite critics saying that the band is musically the "copy of Cradle of Filth" , a point of view that the singer of Cradle, Dani Filth, shared : "I'm not going to mention the name of this group because, I mean, people are asking: " does that bother you? ". Well, what annoys us is to be imitated, and that's ridiculous. It does not make sense, really. But, you know, if it's in their interest to copy us ... it's flattering, really>. "
