Heidevolk is a group of viking and Dutch folk metal, originally from Arnhem, in the province of Gelderland. Formed in 2002, the group plays songs inspired by nature, the history of the province of Gelderland, and Germanic mythology. All their lyrics are written and sung in their mother tongue, Dutch.
The name Heidevolk can be translated into French by "people of the heathland" , but it also refers to the heiden (with an n), that is to say the pagans.
Heidevolk was formed in 2002 by six men (including drummer Joost Westdijk Vellenknotscher) under the name of Hymir who will be quickly changed. They had in common the desire to create music reflecting their fascination for the subjects that inspire them: nature, Germanic mythology, folklore and the history of the province of Gelderland. They begin to occur in public in 2003>.
After a first single, Het Gelders Volkslied, released in October 2004, the band released their first album, De Strijdlust Is Geboren, on March 11, 2005. This will be followed in 2007 by the EP "Wodan Heerst">.
