JKT48 is an Indonesian female pop group based in Jakarta, established in 2011, modeled on the Japanese affiliate group AKB48. This is the first foreign sister group of AKB48 produced by Yasushi Akimoto.
JKT48 takes its name from the core city of the group that is Jakarta, Indonesia. The country was considered a potential market for the group's business because of its relatively young population (from around half is under 30 years old in 2012) and the popularity of Japanese mangas like Slam Dunk and One Piece . In order to bring the concept of AKB48 to Indonesia, Yasushi Akimoto producer associated with the country's largest media conglomerate Global Mediacom, the largest and most integrated media group of Southeast Asian and Japanese business enterprise Rakuten electronics.
Auditions for the selection of singers are launched in September 2011>. The 28 selected members of the 1200 participants are presented in the following November, to start at the end of the year>. The following year will be created other similar foreign groups: TPE48 for Taiwan then SNH48 for China ...
In 2013, the JKT48s made their first album entitled Heavy Rotation, we can certify the latter as a cover album, since the songs are, at first, singles and, in a second time, covers of groups AKB48 and SKE48 , translated into Indonesian.
