Katatonia

Katatonia is a Swedish heavy metal band from Stockholm. Formed in 1991, the group is first anchored in extreme metal, then evolves his music to a more posed and lyrical metal. The group is considered by the trade press as one of the most influential of the Swedish metal scene.

The band was formed in 1991 in Stockholm, Sweden, and launched with Jhva Elohim Meth ... The Revival , a first EP approaching the melancholy black metal. At this time, the band is only a duet composed of Jonas Renkse on vocals and drums, and Blackheim on guitar. In 1993, the group enriches its training, and publishes an album in the same vein but more "product" and less instantaneous, Dance of December Souls , which announces a small side doom metal. The album is recorded between July 3, 1992 and April 9, 1993>.

In 1995, Katatonia released the EP For Funerals to Come , followed by the album Brave Murder Day in a doom / black / death vein with the Opeth singer singing. Jonas Renkse loses his voice when the recording session comes, and he is called for help. It also contributes to the EP Sounds of Decay >.

Thereafter, Katatonia moves to another direction. Jonas Renkse opts for a clear voice and more rock compositions. The first CD to come out in this form is the EP Saw You Drown , but it's Discouraged Ones , May 5, 1998>, immortalizing the new choice of Katatonia.
