Leslie Edward Claypool , known as Les Claypool, is a bassist and singer, born September 29, 1963 in Richmond, California.
Born into a blended family, he listened mainly to the Beatles album Abbey Road. He hesitated long enough to choose the bass as an instrument. Kirk Hammett, Metallica's future guitarist, introduced Jimi Hendrix to high school. He was later auditioned by the group to replace Cliff Burton.
He meets Mark Biedermann, guitarist who founded with him the band Blind Illusion , metal-progressive band. It is at this time that he discovers the Rush group, which gives him a glimpse of the extent of what remains to be learned. He decides to play bass now with three fingers (instead of two usually) and slap, which gives his particular style.
