The Libertines is a British punk rock band from London, England. He was trained in 1997 by Carl Barat and Pete Doherty. Mick Jones, a former Clash member, was the artistic producer of their two albums on the Rough Trade label. The group gained notoriety in the 2000s.
After separating in 2004, the group is reforming to participate in a few concerts in the summer of 2010. It is currently reformed since June 2014 for a few concerts during the summer and a European tour from September. New songs are planned, the announcement of a third album for 2015 is realized on September 11, 2015>.
The story of the Libertines begins in London, England, in the late 1990s when Peter Doherty and Carl Barat, after getting to know each other and sharing some common points, decide to create their own group to which they will give a name reflecting their own way. to be, that is to say, libertines, free of moral and conventional restrictions. At first, several drummers and bassists succeed until the day when Gary Powell, young African-American drummer joins them in their adventure.
Soon, they are spotted by the label Rough Trade who signed them in December 2001. The band then performs its first "real" concert, without bassist. Some time later, John Hassall is invited to join the formation. After hesitating between the compositions of the latter or those of the two singers, they decide to choose that the writing of the songs will return to these, the two guitarists-singers Pete and Carl. As demonstrated by their first EP, released before the first album, their music was at first much quieter and less "punk" than on Up the Bracket. It is from the signature on the label that they decide to change their musical orientation, thus taking a more rock tone.
